Thanks David,

Maybe the trial did go ahead for some of the badges but I've not yet found any official results. If anyone does please contact me.

Chris

Part of a cloth grouping on eBay a few days ago?

The black backed 9th / 12 th Lancers beret badge was kept in use for many years. A friend of mine served with them at Swanton Morley in the LAD ,they were still in use then. Maybe slight differences but generally the same badge.

Not the most striking of badges.

I came across this image the other day, it shows what looks like the larger of the Queen's Regiment badges being worn by a patrol of 3 Queens in Belize (cover photo of the August 1977 edition of "Soldier" magazine).

Nice image Leigh,

I was under the impression such badges would have only been worn on the beret - now educated!

Nice picture Leigh, thanks for sharing. Having several of these, it is apparent that the type shown is a larger variant and that it is also larger than an AA badge would be. For this reason I had been struggling to determine its use.

Pete

Chris. I can't find the thread, but some time ago I posted a reply in a thread about cloth badges, stating that in the 70's R.Sigs were wearing said badges in BAOR, when we REME were still wearing AA or metal badges. Someone came back to say that REME also trialled a cloth badge, which was eventually rejected. I've never seen one, so can't confirm if this is fact.

If I remember correctly Lutterworth Detachment od Leics, Northants and Rutland ACF wore the cloth 9/12th Lancers cloth badge in the early 2000s before the regiment was amalgamated and became a fraction of a subset.
