CAMUS Bands - Gurkhas and Countess of Wessex's
I am composing an article for The Formation Sign the Journal of The Military Heraldry Society on the cloth arm titles worn by the various CAMUS bands, a large number of which are destined to be (have been?) amalgamated.
I have images of the complete set of titles except for those of The Band of The Brigade of Gurkhas and The Countess of Wessex's String Orchestra. Can anyone help with scans of the two missing titles please? Jon |
Countess of Wessex's Orchestra now received, only Gurkha still wanted.

Here is a version, not in my collection. Have not seen the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas title.

Jon, The band(s) of the Gurkha's are NOT part of Camus so do not have shoulder titles as do the other bands.

Only mention I can find about shoulder titles is from IWM site.
"Black metal shoulder title for the Brigade of Gurkhas Staff Band, being GURKHA in serif letters in a straight line, linked top and bottom. " IWM . |

I see from the link you gave they are shown. I have sent a email to HQ CAMUS asking for them to clarify if this is correct or not. Jerry |
I think only the Director of Music and/or Bandmaster are CAMUS badged in No2 Dress.

I know wiki is not the most reliable/accurate source to quote but ....:
"The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas is a British military band based at Shorncliffe. It supports the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas in ceremonial settings and represents the brigade by performing at musical events. It is a directly reporting unit of the Corps of Army Music (CAMUS), which sponsors the promotion of British military music. It is one of two 35 member wind bands in the CAMUS. (the other being the Band and Bugles of The Rifles)." |
Jon posted a thread in 2016 titled "Corps of Army Music Arm titles" , the first sentence was :
"Back in 2014 the journal of the Military Heraldry Society reported that all musicians of bands that come under the CAMUS auspices except the Gurkha Band, the musicians would in future wear cloth shoulder titles in No 2 Dress as follows:" This seems to imply that the Gurkha Band came under the auspices of CAMUS but that they didn't have and would not be required to wear shoulder titles. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=50850 |
Found the document from 2014 about 'CAMUS Musicians Dress' and at that time " the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas was not part of CAMUS" , whether that changed between then and now I don't know.
There is an afternote: "As musicians in No 2 Dress in the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas have a number of very easily distinguishable features, there can be no confusion with musicians from any other Bands. Col BG therefore agreed that there was no necessity to wear a shoulder flash which in any case would be in addition to their existing metal Shoulder Title of “Gurkha”. https://assets.publishing.service.go...ns-ADC-351.pdf |
My thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Seems I knew the answer some years ago!
