ID on a couple of badges from badges collected during WW1
 

Hi All,

I have obtained three boards of 88 badges that were collected during WW1. There are a couple that I was hoping that I could get a positive ID. Pictures attached.

I have not started the process of extracting the badges from the boards yet, this will be a delicate operation I think, so I cannot show the pictures on the backs yet. I can do if this is necessary for ID'ing.

I have also uploaded a picture of the boards. All the small bits of paper behind the sliders holding the badges were from the WW1 period.

Some cracking badges there.

Hi Paul,
You have a desirable collection there, thanks for showing it.
It includes a few choice Pre-First World War badges eg. the Reserve Regiment of Lancers of Boer War vintage.

You have a couple of Canadian badges in the mix... I think the best one is the 90th Winnipeg Rifles... a pre WW1 Militia badge... not to sure about the 32nd Manitoba Saskatchewan badge as my first thought is the colour of it seems off.... maybe some of the CEF collectors can give another opinion

Thanks for all the replies. I can say for sure that all of these badges were collected during WW1. All of the holding papers on the back are of this period. One scrap is dated 24 Apr 1915.

If you would to like to see a close up of any please let me know, but I would be interested to know the large "guards" type badge with the number 3 in it.

The Black Watch Tf is a £100 badge.

The 3 in large star could be from a 3rd Dragoon Guards helmet. Here is one from 2 DG

It would be good to know if the back of the badge I have is consistent with this type of badge design. I will extract it from the board tomorrow and upload a picture of the back.

Picture 4, the badge between The Bays and the Warwickshire Regiment is the Royal 22nd Regiment, the Van Doos, a Canadian infantry regiment, now based in Quebec City.

The large plate with the numeral 3 looks indeed to be an other ranks helmet plate of the 3rd (Prince of Wales) Dragoon Guards but the points of the rays at N, S E & W appear to have been cut down.

The badge with the lances is I believe Her Majesty's Reserve Regiment of Lancers one of the Reserve Regiments formed during the Boer War of 1899-1902.

I would appreciate seeing a close up of the front and back of The Royal Munster Fusiliers badge when it you get a chance please.

Well the first badge successfully extracted from the board. The back looks clean, and I suspect this was a new badge when it was put onto the board.

It's a textbook example of a Musters badge. £20-30.
