WW1 Royal Marine Artillery?
 

Gents, is anyone able to pass judgement on the attached for me. Fairly sure its a WW1 era Royal Marine Artillery badge, but no clue as to its authenticity. Can anyone educate me?

I can't vouch for your badge's authenticity. I can merely show you mine, which was bought from "Bill the Badge Man" in Lymington in 1993 under a promise of authenticity! (Comments welcome!)

I note a different number of lugs on the back.

Original badge but not cap badge, collar badge. Lugs are east/west on cap badge and north/south on collar badge.

I find that difficult to believe. Do you have any documentary proof of that Irv?

Who was going round checking the orientation of lugs on the thousands of cap and collar badges worn which from the front were identical.

Surely just manufacturing differences.

There is a thread about this from a while ago. I posted pictures of Brodick caps showing that they had to be east/west lugs or they wouldn’t sit as low on the red insert. I’ve attached a picture of mine. I’ll have look tomorrow for the other thread.

Time to throw a spanner in the works, just my opinion though. Firstly, I have never seen an E-W lugged RMA badge and have always been happy that the N-S lugged examples are original cap badges. Looking at your E-W lugged badge, I would need some convincing that it is genuine. Firstly, the lugs appear to be footed, and secondly, the rear detail is far poorer than the example next to it.
Like I said, just my thoughts so likely wrong, but worth a mention.

Hi Alex,
Well the evidence shown in original pictures show this type of badge sitting low on the cap. The lower lug (N-S) would have had to be put through the front material which makes no sense as the badge on this type of cap were fitted to the half moon red flash.
The pictures show a few of the other RMA badges I have, the last single shots show the badge on this cap. This is fake??? Show me what you were talking about the lugs please.
Can you show me some of your badges to compare with mine and point out the differences so I can learn.
