WRCNS Cap badges

The WRCNS (Womens Royal Canadian Naval Service) was commenced in 1942 & ran until disbandment in 1946. Altho nominally part of the RCN, it was administered as a separate force with its own organizational, rank structure & administration.

Their badges were identical the those of the WRNS, that is, their insignia was embroidered in blue.

Example below a WRCNS Officer's cap badge.

Note: one sees variants in this badge, especially in the shades of the blue embroidery, it can be quite bright or very dark, also the colour fades with exposure to weather & time.

Photo of Chief Officer Adelaide Sinclair WRCNS.

She was the first Director of the WRCNS, & was awarded the OBE in 1945.

She is wearing the WRCNS cap badge shown in the first post & also the distinctive blue lace on her tunic cuffs.

The WRCNS used different designators than the RCN for their ranks, & I will cover these in this thread as well.

Have been off the forum for a bit, now going to try to complete the series on the WRCNS badges:

Illustrated is a CPO (Chief Pety Officer) Cap badge & a PO (Petty Officer) cap badge.

As with the Officer's cap badge, the blue colour of these badges will fade with exposure & time.

& also one sees varients of them due to different manufacturers
