All that tradition and Esprit de Corps gone.

Hopefully it will make for a better reserve force which is fit for purpose and those retained will quickly become proud of their new Units.

I think it is simply a new phase which happens with the passage of time in many defence forces based to an extent costs and changing global and national situations.

Happened in the 1960s, as a result of the establishment of the republic, although on a smaller scale. Several names were changed, followed by new badges and new Colours. Battle honours were retained though, except for some 19th-century self-assumed honours which the regiments concerned couldn't justify.
