Gents, a recent car boot sale find, which was very cheap. The back seems to look ok, but the front appears too 'clean. . Is it good or a copy?

Many thanks guys

Bess

Repro, whilst the pic is dark at 7 o’clock you can just see the beginnings of the die flaw running through Royal.

Perfect, thank you Luke.

It was only a couple of quid so took a punt.

Hi

A late friend told me that these were the bane of the life of someone in the trade and if it was a high volume item they would recut the die.

Low volume, rarely used dies would be banded with a heat shrunk ring to hold them together. Cracks were still evident on some items.

I think my spares has a bi-metal RWF/ Lancs or similar with a cut slider. I was told that this was a modification for when being worn with certain types of head dress.

When/if it surfaces, I'll post a photo of it!:)

I have a couple of genuine KLR badges with die flaws - mostly hurried 1st WW productions.

(Often described as Friday afternoon output!)

That really does look brand new and the metal used very different than any original that I've ever seen.
