The Light Horseman!
This is a morale patch I had made up for ex RAAC soldiers and members of my association. Mick |

"The role of cavalry in war"

There is a story that an Australian general once began an address to his troops as "Gentlemen of the Light Horse and men of the Infantry".
Years ago our old NSW Military Historical Society met at the Lancer Barracks and Philip Vernon, a living national treasure, was a member. He succeeded his father and grandfather as Lt Col in command of the Lancers and was an author of the Lancers' history. He told us that the role of cavalry in war was "To lend tone to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl". Attached a couple of scans of post-war RNSWL badges. The top badge in the middle is the pre-1900 first pattern and the one below the limited edition 1885-1985 Centenary commemorative badge. On the left of this is a chromed badge about which I would like to know more. |
This design was based of a cartoon drawing I saw in the NSW Lancers museum.
I've also never seen that shoulder flash with dark blue lettering before. Very nice! Mick |
