Hi
Picked up yesterday this anodised cap badge for Military Academy Sandhurst and wondered if this badge was / is worn by Officer cadets or staff. I hope someone can help with my question and any other info.

Thanks

Rob

This badge is worn by the Officer cadets and I beleive that staff would wear thier own unit badges. The Acadamey RSM wore a Bullion version of this badge. There is also a silvered and a wm version of the badge both with KC & QC as well as a belt badge with lugs.:)

Hi Jerry
Thank you for your info and for taking the time to post. Can I ask would this still be the current issue of the badge.

Cheers

Rob

Yes it is the current issue. I have given a couple of spares out to former students over the years who have headed for Sandhurst. Our PSI at 87 Sqdn in the early 90s was a former instructer at Sandhurst and he wore his Signals badges. To be posted there was a premium posting.

I would imagine that every officer cadet is issued with at least one if not two badges. If they train at least 500 officers a year from the UK and overseas that is quite a lot of badges. They do turn up regularly and I suppose there are many that are kept as momentoes.

In the 1990s it was one for beret, one for peaked cap, one lugged for No1 dress badge and one painted black for field wear.

Also look out for ones with the EiiR cypher painted gold, which denotes the wearer was in the Soverigns Platoon (best of course/intake) for Pass Off.. The painting is done "In House" so could be copied by anyone!! (watch them come flooding out:))..

Hi All
Thanks for all the info. I shall refrain from getting out my paint brush, especially as the wife wants me to start decorating soon anyway!!!!!!!!.

Cheers

Lanyards

Does anyone know the significance of the two different lanyard colours in the attached photograph?
Regards Tony.

They relate to the Term and thus College that they are in. William is final term and thus yellow. His brother is in his first term. Previously Old College is red, New College Blue and Victory College was Yellow.

Lanyards. In the 1961-63 period (my personal knowledge) Officer Cadets in the Sovereign's Company took off their Red, Blue or Yellow College lanyards and wore one of identical design but made up in strands of red, blue and yellow. This was worn for as long as the Company retained the Sovereign's Company distinction.

Still stands today. Here is HRH when he was in the Soverigns Platoon with his Mum at his Commissioning parade - you will note the scruffy erk has failed to secure the end of his lanyard with a safety pin inside his pocket and the end has come out.
