Spotted this badge on ebay but im not sure if this is a made up badge which has had the QVC crown replaced with a KC as the crown looks to have a different patina, here is my example notice there is no gap between the crown and Lances, opinions please.
Cheers

Malcolm, You could be right except that the QVC "Queens Lancers" cap badge has 4 lugs (mine also has an oblong brazing hole behind the "1" where it crosses the lance).
My KC "Queens Lancers" cap badge also doesn't have a gap and neither do the KC "Queens Lancers" collars. I don't have a KC "Queens Lancers" cap badge - but I am sure someone will.
Unless you can find signs of the previous 4 lugs..... The crown itself may be a replacement - although you would have to be extremely heavy handed to remove it without damaging the
lances/pennants etc.
Good luck, David

Malcolm, You could be right about the lugs. I just haven't seen a QVC cap badge with 2 and the fact that I have the set means I am not looking for more anyway. Good luck with the hunt...

Malc,

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have tis badge and was hoping that someone could tell me what I have. It is not BM, but seems to be silver plated or the like.

Is this a cap or a collar and when was it worn?

Kind regards,

Andy

My O/R collars are exactly the same as yours in appearance - the scroll, lower pennant and "16" are all WM. Overall width is 41.63mm. Mine have braze holes near the lance/scroll crossing at the back and one at the back of the "1". Yours seems to be a cap badge size.

Your badge looks like it was ment to be an officers bronze which has been altered,i have a similar one with a Gaunt plaque under the slider,it was not bronzed and may have been used as an economy.Nice badge Post 1905 as it has "The" in the title.

Something may be amiss here. The reinforcing rods ring alarm bells to me,

The whole badge rings alarm bells and the seller makes their volume rather loud.

The QVC badge would have been made with lugs until 1902 then the pattern would have changed to K/C.

This in turn would have been replaced with a vertical shank fitting circa 1903 when the Brodrick was introduced. Whether the 16th Lancers actually wore this horrible hat it not known but with the introduction of the peaked cap the long slider would be cut down as per the badge shown in post 1.

I am not sure when the "The Queen's Lancers' title was introduced but it would seem to be about that time. Anyone know?

May well be mistaken but off top of my head I thought 1902-05 for the KC ‘Queen’s Lancers’ version.

Alan O 18-10-20 06:27 PM

That would tie in with the fittings for the different type of hats.

Alan
