Dark Blue Beret
 

Sorry guys, I realize this forum is mostly for badges but I don't know where else to turn. I recently picked up a very dark blur beret made by J. Compton, Sons & Webb Ltd. It also has the /I\ British marking. I originally thought it was armoured corps, it was so dark but once I got it home and compared it to my other armoured corps berets, I realized it is actually dark blue. It also has a leather support on the inside for a badge with vertical lugs. Can anyone tell me what branch this would have been used for? I've searched the net but can't find any conclusive answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like the standard issue beret for a lot of Army and the navy. I had this style of beret when I served with the Royal Engineers :)

And me when in both REME and North Staffords , the same beret was also worn by RASC and RA when I was attached to them.

A standard British Army beret for all Regiments and Corps that do not have their own colour.

In recent years the RAC wore a dark blue beret with the RAC mailed fist badge. It was only the RTR who wore black.

So I am assuming that it's safe to say this is not a WWII armoured corps beret. Without a date and having the /I\ arrow acceptance mark, am I safe to assume it is post-war? Thanks very much for your help in advance.

Early post war ones (i.e. 1950s) have the same stamp and arrow marks too. I believe it is the overall size of the actual beret that makes the difference between 50s-60s.
