Could a member please put up a photograph of an officer's headress badge of the APL ? I understand there were uncrowned and crowned versions - My Thanks

I think the story is that there was an early unofficial badge of crossed jambias with no crown and no scroll. This below is claimed to be such a badge. It may be made in silver as it has nielo decoration.

The official officers badge in gilt and sp is also shown. There are also collar badges without the scroll.

Both these picture are from my library collection and I appologise if they belong to someone else!

Just to add to what Eddie said, it seems these silver badges were purchased during the 1950s RAF time before the badge with the crown which came out when the Army took over. I have had different comments from those who wore them. One RAF doctor told me that they were only worn by officers and had a piece of green cloth cut out around them. Have a poor photo of it and another RAF person, not an officer, in the Armourned Car Company said he wore it - and supplied a photo but with a circular green backing. The badge was worn on the topee and the RAF beret. Not sure when the topee was discontinued by the RAF in Aden but suspect the early 1950s.

Ive been looking for one of these badges for ages. I saw one with a dealer like the one above with two lugs to the reverse. I didnt buy it, next time I saw the dealer it was gone. Then I had the great fortune to see another :), this time with the a matched pair of shoulder titles. I bought them on Sunday!

What is unsual about the cap badge I bought is that the reverse has a pin fastening which it looks like it was manufactured with. I know that it was manufactured with a pin since the reverse retains all its gilding. I am wondering is this is a variation which is not documented here? It would certainly be more sensible fixing due to the head gear worn by this unit.

If anyone is interested in looking at my badge or shoulder titles please let me know and I will post photographs.

My badge is the brass gilt type with the silver blades and the steel pin. Has no maker marks.

With refrence to green cloth backing, I found a picture via google of an RAF O/R wearing his RAF berret with the circular green backing and the crossed Arab daggers with no crown. It is stated that they had them made by a local jeweller. John.

Hi John, nice to see you at the Devon Area MVT Christmas dinner last night.

I found this in my Fathers Aden Veterens Association magazine "The Dhow" Nov 2011. I don't know if this is an original badge or one of the replicas but it does show a green background. Rob.

It has been a while since I visited the RAF Regiment Museum in Honnington Suffolk but I think there were various examples of badges worn by this unit.
It is a [by appointment] Museum as it is on an active base. Regards Kevin
