"D G" shoulder title
I have a plain "D G" shoulder title, which I assume to mean "Dragoon Guards". Would this have been from a particular regiment, such as the 5th Dragoon Guards?

from about 1885 and at least by 1900 the one piece title "DG" was worn by Dragoon Guards Regiments with a seperate numeral above. Thus your title would need a seperate numeral (above) to be complete. In about 1913 one piece titles individual to regiments became common. In the case of the 5th DG this was a one piece title " 5 DG" in 'one line". John |
Thank you John. That would explain the existence of both "DG" and "5DG" shoulder titles. My other, very tentative thought was that "DG" could have stood for "Dublin Guard", though I assume that such a title would have not been officially employed in the Free State Army (?)

These are the actual items, together with two "mystery titles", one of which may be a lancer regiment?:
