Scotlsh Soldier served in Iceland

I am wanting to obtain service records of a soldier of Interest to the family,
I have the date of birth, his name, place of birth and death cert ,
just one digital photo so cannot enhance / or copy better res !
he survived the war and all we know is he served in Iceland
date photo taken is unknown - thats all we know about his service
the forms for his records have to state either Army or Navy/Marines ? we have no idea which he served in,
I have had this question on WW2Talk which has given me lots of very interesting information regarding occupation of Iceland some of which we can include in our family history story.
because of WW2Talk i know marines, navy, Raf and Army units were there,
realise it is not possible to ID the badge from the photo, so 50/50 gamble with the paperwork and fees. just trying to narrow the odds,
have looked at a photo of a Marines cap badge and it could be perhaps ??? found one Scottish Regt in Iceland (1st Tyneside Scottish (The Black Watch) Royal Highland Regiment) but looks totally different badge,
cant imagine he was in a English Army unit but...i do not know ?
I hope i havent crossed a line by reposting this on a diff group i am sure a lot of members belong to both. i am keen to learn more about him and would like to get the records ordered, but i accept i might end up applying twice.

the photo shows him wearing white belt
