Confirmation, please. The pre 1970's titles reading ROYAL CANADIAN / ARMY CADETS title was worn by corps not affiliated with a regiment of the Canadian army, while the ARMY CADETS single line title was used to identify cadets that were affiliated with a regiment or corps and wore that regiment's or corp's titles at the top of the sleeve.

Bill, I was a member of two different Corps between 1967 and 1972. In the first we wore battledress with Unit shoulder title and the RCAC Maple Leaf - no 'Army Cadets' tab. In the second we wore Patrols and wore only the school's Brass shoulder title.
Reviewing the many photos on the RCAC website may help.

That is generally correct. The "generic" Royal Canadian Army Cadet titles may also have been worn by corps who did not have access to, did not care to, or could not afford the affiliated unit accoutrements (most corps, including school corps, had an affiliation, even if they never wore any of the accoutrements).

Ok, so why also the RCAC leaf?

That is a really good question. I have no idea. The Canadian Sea and Air cadets do not wear an equivalent identifier on their uniforms, just the shoulder titles.

I think because perhaps the "Army Cadets" badge was not always worn with the regimental title and there was a need to quickly and visibly distinguish the cadet from the Army soldier, as they were wearing similar uniforms and often the same accoutrements, etc. On the Army Cadet History site, you can see both identifiers worn in many of the pictures - definately redundant.

Given the size of the "Army Cadets" title, I've wondered if it may orginally have been intended for wear on rank slipons or epaulets? I have never seen in used in such a way, but the size is similar to the regimental tabs.

Documentation indicates the ARMY CADETS title was for wear on the sleeve.
When I was in cadets, (early 70's), we wore the regimental title, the ARMY CADET tab and then the RCAC leaf.

Well this thread hasn't had much use in a while however I was hoping someone might know where I can get (download) old BD badges, insignia and orders

Could the badge have been styled after the CEF general service badge, I do not know.

Also, the motto of Acer Acerpori, Latin for "as the maple, so the sapling" for the cadets, and the Army using the Maple Leaf as an identifier made sense in designing the badge?
