Help needed with Indian and Malay Corps insignia
 

Hello everyone,

I recently was sent a picture of two Indian and Malay Corps soldiers, one a Corporal, the other a Sergeant. The Corporal happened to be wearing metal shoulder titles, with the "IMC" lettering. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to share the picture.

I've seen it worn once before in another picture of what I presume to be an officer (though to my knowledge there were only white officers), and was wondering whether it was common or not for these shoulder titles to be worn.

I've attached a picture of the shoulder title below for context, and any help would be appreciated.

Not commonly worn by the ranks and shoulder titles were NOT worn by officers.

Very few of these titles are seen and I have yet to see a picture of one been worn. All the titles I have seen like this have been lead cast, locally manufactured so possibly done in some workshop for a few guys and not done for the whole corps.

I've run across a few and they were always ID'd as Indian Medical Service title! Nice to know what they actually are.

That would be the IMS title you are referring to which is "Indian Medical Service" and an India unit from 1890's to 1946

Ah, You are right Steven. I was going form memory and thought the ones I saw were IMC. Yes, now I remember they are IMS. My bad - sorry!
