Hi Luke

Many thanks for your comment. I agree that this could be a fantasy badge and certainly most I have seen, with sliders, are so obviously just that, my only point being that I have never seen one with two loops. Like you I wish that there were no fantasies or fakes, but even if this is just that I did not pay any money for it so happy.

Again like you I have never seen a photograph of one being worn, however many years ago I had seen genuine, but never issued, RNMBR cloth badges in a stock book at the, no longer existing, Naval Royal William Yard Devonport. I also have photographs of RNAS ratings wearing badges, or combination of badges, that were never listed. It's a minefield.

Just for information, I am sending a photgraph of the loops, if there are feet, they are minute.

Regards

John

Sorry for late reply.

I’ve taken the liberty of brightening your image, whilst out of focus on the loop based the splayed feet are visible more so in the top left and middle pics.

They look modern to me and my views remain unchanged.

Many of the Marsh catalogue wares came with a variety of finishes or fixings. A batch being completed with loops wouldn’t surprise me, but, from the darker patches around the attachment sites I still think replacements.

As I’ve mentioned before well over 90% of the badges in the catalogue are out and out fake newly made dies, very few were original dies.

The last pic is of replacement loops regularly sold on eBay, they also have that fluted shaft widening toward the foot.
