Gentlemen,
Your thoughts on this "KING'S" badge please.
It's been in my collection for a good number of years.
Regards

This OR cap badge was introduced by the WO in Jan 1896 as Patt 4362A/1896. During the 1st WW there were thousands made by numerous manufacturers involving lots of dies. I have counted 28 and I've called this one1896 Die no 12. I don't know who made it but it dates to 1915/1916. It has a number of slight labour saving details - eg hind legs are fused / unvoided, short mane, short / small tail, the tabs are smaller etc etc.

It looks very new and shiny but that could be lighting !?

Incidentally your description of the inscription as "KING'S" - is wrong as there is no possessive apostrophe. There are numerous variations of the inscription and you need to be accurate.

enjoy !

Looks to have been bulled to the RSM's delight!

Hello KLR. If you have ever taken pictures of the early version variations I would have a general interest in seeing them. Regards, Paul.

Yes, I've been trying to present all the dies (of all the different King's types) in an album (like Jelly's) but I'm a lousy photographer - of small detailed things - tuition gratefully received !

Apart from the dies, the loops are earlier than the sliders etc etc etc

"THE KING'S" badge

Hello KLR,
Once again thank you for the information on this badge"THE KING'S". I had no idea so many dies existed. Re the new & shiny, all I did was soak it in a mild soapy solution for a few days as it was in a very filthy state. So yes CB it has indeed been bulled.
Regards and many thanks.
Michael
