South Lancs, Glosteshire Rgt, Green Howards

Seen these today in a collection, 3 Early 1950,s Aluminium Alloy’s - of the 30 badges, 3 being fake/copies, there are 12 Officer’s collars, all 1st WW, there is a lovely 1st WW Kings blackened Bronze? (have had a drink with the bloke well chuffed for him, might be the 7th,? but not exactly sober but not drunk!) stand to be corrected on this! Manchesters Rgt, RWAFF, Canadian VAD shoulder title? and 14 nice original badges (run of the mill badges).

The Canadian being (I think) the 1st Canadian VAD?

May I ask just what is a fair price on these badges, the only maker’s name I recall is for :-

Green Howards (A.K. Times)
Gloucestershire Rgt (?)
Northamptonshire Rgt (? )

(? - there are names cannot remember them but badges are pristine!) he thought these where trash, and a bit surprised when I told him these where GEMS! and probable cost for them!

My question is what this may be, have told him to join the Forum, so he can learn ? as he is a New Collector, he has other hobbies, (Wish I could say my collection had 40% Gems (10% copies doesn’t sound so good mind!) leaves 50% good badges - can’t say my own get’s that Ratio!

Will get the badges in the near future so I can show you all but wasn’t going to take the risk of taking them off him in the Pub where we met in case I lost them! HWould You?) all the best billy

Here are the badges this thread was waiting for, :-
The Gloucestershire Rgt has a strange fixing which I have never come across before anyone give me a date guideline for this, maker’s mark “Grove MFG B,ham”

The Northamptonshire Rgt early fitting, maker’s mark “T&S”

Green Howards maker’s mark “M M TIMMINGS Ltd B,HAM

1st CANADIAN, FLD AMB presumably 1st WW will check this out with Canadian section posting here as this was mentioned initially.

Any information on these appreciated many thanks Billy

Glosters and Northants AA cap badges are good.

Sorry to say the Green Howards badge looks like a fake. Body of the badge seems to be made from thin, pressed, sheet metal, with an aluminium slider affixed to it.

The Timings slider on the Green Howards appears to be correct.
Which T&S mark is on the Northants Billy ?

William 17-10-22 09:31 PM

The T&S mark on the Northants slider is Turner and Simpson. Quite a rare maker’s mark, not seen on many AA cap badges.

As well as the Northants badge shown in Billy’s post, these AA cap-badges are also made with T&S sliders: Essex Yeo (large), RE, RAOC, RWAFF, and others.

BTW, is there a picture of the South Lancs badge, mentioned in the title of this thread?

Oop,s didn’t get that, it was Northamptonshire, put wrong name down and forgot to change to correct one, apologies, thank you for your input and happy that the “T&S” is a good maker mark to have.

So is the Green Howards a fake?

There are a number of cast anodised fakes ,they are pretty easy to spot. The Gaylor ones arent,it comes with knowledge Billy.

So if they have a flat ish rear and not “Die struck” they are fine?

Mike H 19-10-22 10:28 AM
