Hi everyone, I recently bought this 8th Punjab Regiment badge. I wanted to know if it goes back to ww2 or not. It is marked J. R. Gaunt London. Thanks a lot to everyone

The short answer is 'yes'. The 8th was created in 1922 from 6 Punjabi regiments and in WWII had 11 active and 4 training battalions. They would all have worn this badge.

In 1947 the non-Muslim companies were traded out and replaced with Muslims from other IA units when the regiment went to the Pakistani Army. As far as I know they would have worn this badge, or a very similar one until 1956 when the unit was renamed '!st Battalion, Baluch Regiment'.

Small amendment.

In 1956 there were the 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th Bn, 8th Punjab Regiment.
They became the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 13th, 17th and 18th Bn, The Baluch Regiment (now the Baloch Regiment).

As to be seen here: The Baloch Regiment
