Help Needed to ID three British Officers.

Hi Jo,
Is that not Lt. Gen. "Boy" Browning on the right? I'm puzzled by the toorie on his cap.

Don't think so ...he looks too old to be Browning.

Browning was a Grenadier Guardsman and left the Army in Sep 48. On the left is CO 1 Lincolns, possible Lt Col Oulton (9 (?) Inf Bde, 3 Inf Div - possibly in the Canal Zone c 1949. The SF experts should be able to identify the officer in the centre by his rank and Force 136 etc wings on his chest. My first thought was that the officer on the right was Lt Gen Cassels, but the date I suggested doesn't fit. I believe the aircraft is an Avro Anson. Mike

The same Lt Col Oulton who commanded O Force, Jordan (essentially comprised of 1 Lincolns). The O Force formation sign featured a swan (because in the view of the CO it was all a bit of a "swan" when compared to the Canal Zone). Mike

The Lt Gen has Scarlet Gorgets, but the Brigadier seems to be darker as is his hat band? perhaps Blue??

I think the officer in the centre is Brigadier John Hackett who took command of the Trans-Jordan Frontier Force in 1947.

Looked him up and I'm mistaken. Medal ribbons don't tally.

I am trying to remember which British units wore a whistle on their Sam Browns and then reconcile that with the various staff officer's gorget colours:
bright blue (engineers)
dark blue (ordnance)
pale blue (education)
scarlet (general staff duties)
cherry (medical)
maroon (veterinary)
purple (chaplains)
green (dental)
yellow (accountants)

And the larger version of the 10th Foot flash as worn by the CO. I believe the smaller version was worn under the XI Corps sign by 102 LAA Regt RA (ex-7 Lincolns).

The Scottish General has three Military Crosses (two rosettes on the ribbon).
And the "Force 136" Brigadier is Distinguished Service Order, Military Cross and Bar - and a Mention in Dispatches

The officer in the centre of the picture is Brigadier A M Anstruther (late RE) SOE in WW2

His medals were sold by DNW in 2010
