NAVAL AUXILIARY PATROL CAP BADGE

hi all
has anyone ever seen this badge before? i have been offered one, on a very shabby hat and the badge is in poor condition, however, there are ran buttons on the cap and it comes with other royal australian navy items.
was this used by the royal navy or solely an australian item and has anyone got one in there collection?
