Royal Artillery cap badge wheel variations?

3 Attachment(s)
Hello all,

I got given another RGA cap badge today but it’s different from my other two in that the wheel is ‘smooth’ where as the others have detail on the wheel rim. The wheel is also ‘thicker’.

Why the difference? I appreciate these rotating wheel variants were a private purchase item - is it just down to manufacturer variants or different types for different ranks/units?

Thanks
Ed

Ed,

Its not an exclusive badge to the RGA, its a RA badge worn by all members, RHA, RFA & RGA.

As one, if not the top one of numbers of badges produced they were made by numerous manufacturers, I have 9 such named badges to the RA by British makers and another 10 named to Indian makers.

They are just the named slider ones, there will be other makers who just didnt bother naming their sliders.

So expect a great deal of variety in badges.

I expect the wheels were similarly produced.

regards

Sorry yes that’s a slip in my part as my primary interest is RGA and I tend to default to thinking of RGA not RA sorry!

So essentially - don’t read to much into the variation?

RA once made up 1/3rd of the Army so the variations are huge as so many were made.
