Another "commemorative" pin from RBL , price £29.99 + p&p.

Not one that I'll be buying , I'd rather they had made a better version of the "Commonwealth Pin Badge" as this one looks like cheap 'costume jewellery'.

It does come with a "Commemorative Certificate" dedicated to individual Commonwealth service men who lost their lives.

The above post was from October 2019 and I have just given in and bought one of these "Remember Together" pins.

They have been available on the PoppyShop website at reduced price of £7.99 for the past couple of month (I guess they didn't sell well originally ;)) and have been showing up on eBay for well above that recently.

NB. They are now showing up on the official Royal British Legion eBay shop at the full £29.99 price .

Lost direction ?

As I've said , I don't like the new "corporate" logo the RBL has introduced and thought the "British" in the badge was getting 'lost' in the design.

Checking the "New in" section of the PoppyShop website they have four new badges (not available but coming soon ) but what I find strange considering their push for the RBL/Poppy brand is that the badges give no indication that they are from/supporting the charity.

Perhaps it's just me but I feel they have not only lost direction but are out of touch with the views/feelings of the grassroots members.

.

Mike_2817 21-05-21 05:49 PM

I do not think these are 'new designs' but pins which have been picked up or donated, as they are WW1 orientated not 100 years of the RBL which is meant to be the currant trend/event.

Just thought the timing and subject matter was odd , there is also a WW2 badge (again no poppy ?).

Didn't know RBL/PoppyShop sold donated items , I knew their 'official' eBay shop listed signed football shirts etc .

Nice pin, I have not added any new pins to my collection other than the 2021 Poppy Pin and 100 Years RBL Pin, plus an undated PGA Golf Pin

Have marked my report card - Must try harder

mike_vee 20-06-21 07:11 AM

First thought was that it was a 'chinese made' fantasy item but a check on the RBL site showed it was real .

an exclusive Poppy Pin every year, which is only available to Poppy Supporters
It arrived on RBL card and in original package . A nice eBay find for less than £5.00.

Not being a 'Poppy Supporter' in the donation sense I have never seen one, or any of my local members wearing one!

I hadn't seen or even heard about them , so possibly a very recent item introduced to increase donors.

Spotted it on eBay listed as :

Quote:

2021 Official Remembrance Pin Badge
No mention of RBL or Poppy in the title , so (luckily for me ) it slipped through the net . There were 2 other bidders but the highest was only £4.00 so I got it for 20p more.

.

Mike_2817 20-06-21 05:37 PM

All I can say is well spotted. I agree this may well be the first year of issue,

so you need to donate a minimum of £10 per month to get one!

https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I am not a Poppy Supporter as I only donate my time as a now Deputy Poppy Appeal Organiser and have to wait 15 years for my 'free' badge!
[already served my time]

New pin

This is the latest Poppy Pin available from PoppyShop for £4.99.

Don't know if this one is going to be available long term or if it is a 'trail run' to see how well they sell.

Another set of "commemorative" badges , D-Day / VE Day / VJ Day , and again nothing that indicates they are RBL .

If they had put a small poppy in one corner it would at least show they were 'Legion' , as it is they could have been made/sold by anyone.

The PoppyScotland brochure arrived yesterday ! ;)

The 2021 versions are around ........ but not yet from PoppyShop ! :(

I assume they have been ordered by Welsh/ROI branches/PAO's and will be available on line at some point but was disappointed to see that ROI one has already appeared on eBay.

I know there are other 'special' pins this year and hope that branches can benefit from fundraising before they too appear on eBay.

Occasionally I see a badge I already have but pop it on my "watch list" to get some idea of the latest value.

Saw this "Poppy Appeal Honorary Organiser" with a starting price of £4.99 , I thought it would probably go for £15 - £20 but with 6 bidders it eventually went for £42.07 + £3.50 postage !

I really need to sort out my "spares box" ! :D

Someone must be kicking themselves , another "Poppy Appeal Honorary Organiser" badge just went for £15.00 (including postage) , 30% of the price paid 10 days ago ! ;)

Some recent additions:

WW1 Centenary - I've been after this one for years (thanks James)

RBLWS 90 - Not seen this one before and not sure if it was 'official' or Branch.

CNC badges - Civil Nuclear Constabulary , not sure when first produced but still being made in 2020.

A few Branch/unofficial pins , previously certain groups were authorised/permitted to use the poppy emblem but now due to copyright issues they are either using 'variations' or else stopping producing remembrance pins.

This year there was definitely a shortage of pins being supplied to branches and some which you would have expected PoppyShop to sell were not available.

That said , with lots of e-mails , requests for help and some swaps/trades etc most have been sourced. Thanks guys.

The London Poppy Day pins are usually the hardest to find as they were not sold but only 'issued' to the Poppy Sellers who were on duty on the day.

P.S Every time I find a badge from my "wanted list" I think GREAT ! Then I discover another I don't have and the list never gets smaller. :D

NB. Although PoppyShop doesn't have a lot of this year's pins available they are already selling 2022 Dated Silver/Gold Tone Poppy Lapel Pins.

Just when I've almost completed my "awards" collection , only need a few date bars and a 50 year badge , they go and bring out new ones ! :(

Personally I'm not too keen on the new 15/20/25 years service badges , they are very 'generic' and are too similar to other commemorative ones that have previously been sold by PoppyShop.

.....but of course I'll still want to get a hold of them. :D

A recent arrival was a 1935 "Poppy Factory Illustrated Brochure" , 40+ pages including lots of photos. Will scan it at some point in the New Year.
