RNZN buttons

Could anyone tell me what patterns of buttons are worn by the Royal New Zealand Navy? Do they state 'New Zealand' on them in the same way as the buttons of the RAN state 'Australia' and the RCN state 'Canada'? Or do they just have the Crown and Foul Anchor design with N and Z either side of the anchor shank? Or are they basically similar to Royal Navy buttons without any distinct New Zealand identification? I have been trying to find this out for years but so far without any luck!

Many thanks

Pete

Hi Pete,
I've looked through my lot of Navy buttons and cannot find any marked distinctively New Zealand so I presume RNZN buttons were of the Royal Navy patterns.
Cheers, Tinto

Thanks Tinto!

That pretty much confirms what I had suspected. Many thanks for your help!

Hi Guzzman.
I have a few RNZN uniforms post 1990. None have any distinctive New Zealand Markings.

I'm sure you are all aware of this museum - http://navymuseum.co.nz/ - but if there is still any doubt about the buttons used by the Royal New Zealand Navy, then an email to the curator should clear things up. Under the 'Clothing' section of their collection they do mention that they have buttons.

Regards
Roger

Firstly many thanks to Nichollg and Cribyn for your assistance.

Everything seems to confirm what I had already suspected.

And I was not aware of the RNZN Museum site. I will bookmark it for future reference.

I can't help feeling I should have known the answer to my own question already as in the 1950s and 1960s I had several relatives who transferred to the RNZN after service in the RN!

Pete
