Martingales

17th Lancers martingale and an 11th Hussars martingale on a crupper.
Both are bimetal martingales being composed of brass and German silver.
I'd like to believe these date to the Crimea but is there anyway of knowing other than them being Victorian ?

Thanks Tony. I wonder when the name changed on the martingales from Prince of Wales's to just Wales.

Will

The only reference to the name change of the 10th I can find is :

In 1861, it was renamed the 10th (The Prince of Wales's Own) Royal Hussars.

Then in 1921 the regiment was retitled the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own).

Hope this helps

Thanks Tony, it does put the martingale into a time period of 1861-1921 quite a stretch but better than not being sure.
