Hi Gents,

This beauty just arrived with much thanks to a fellow forum member who kindly sent it over. Well used and with age, gold bullion thread on black. No idea of it's origin but love the look of it, so a very welcome addition.

Cheers,

Roy

Roy,

The shape of the wheel reminds me of South African types.

Was it sent over from there by any chance?

Thanks Gents,

This came from one of our member in the UK.

Thanks for the South African possible Simon, I will keep my eyes in that direction on photos etc.

I'm really excited about this one, a lovely looking piece. There is so little known history about these mostly unofficial patches, I'm hoping that given time and a little research (aka luck:rolleyes:) that more can be learned.

Cheerio,

Roy

My initial thought was Deutsche Reichsbahn, but all badges I have found are different (all metal, wings up etc.)

It is a nice badge, WW1 RNAS perhaps?

A lovely badge. I hope it is a Despatch Rider one, but I agree with btns and would think this is a Deutsche Reichsbahn badge. They have been variations of the DR winged wheel badge in use since 1920. I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for all your comments gents,

As with so many of these rare pieces the jury is out until some hard evidence surfaces. In the meantime it's just a case of enjoying it for what it is.

If nothing else pieces like this keep the research going and our interest up. I will keep my fingers crossed but my mind open.

Cheers,

Roy
