There is a plaque at St Paul's Bangalore to commemorate the mustering out of the regiment. Trying to attach a photo...

Simon, there is another photo of the regiment of officers and men, the sepoys wearing a very distinctive fez-like pagri/cap..will try and locate..

None of them appear to be wearing any medal ribbons. Neither battalion saw any action during their brief existance.

This Wiki entry provides an interesting if perhaps not very flattering commentary on the raising and disbandment of this regiment:

Two of the officers appear to be wearing the ribbon of the India General Service Medal. Not that the medal ribbons are important, concentrate on the moustaches, it was moustaches like these that won us an Empire.

Better eyes, or more patience than I! Thank you for that necessary correction.

OTOH, you are completely correct: it is the moustaches which really count. ;)

Great photographs....does anybody have a badge of 77 Moplah Rifles, the type shown worn by the officers, appears to be a bugle and scroll but difficult to make out in the image. Thanks Piffer

Khyber has a superb example in his album. I am sure that he will not mind me posting a link.

And almost certainly the same officers wearing them :)

I suspect that the two photographs were taken on the same day, unless the 77th Moplah Rifles spent July 1907 taking photographs of themselves. It is a well known that a luxurious moustache can turn the head of a young woman and make its wearer vain.
