he can be seen to be wearing the TMI shoulder title, from the 2nd Boer War. Examples of the title can be found on the net, from the https://www.angloboerwar.com/forum website

A superb photograph showing an unusual pose and inappropriate use of household furniture; clearly not a gentleman in Khaki.

Without casting aspersions, some of the TMI were Americans....and Aussies:eek:

Very nice image Jerry, is there a photographers address upon the reverse?

Sadly nothing

Okay, just wondered, but, those do appear to be Victorian villa type housing in photograph with the bay windows.

JerryBB 23-01-21 06:27 PM

Indeed, the tiled footpath and edging are typical of the period.

I would think probably post Vereeniging, but, he certainly looks the part, typical SAMIF, I wonder who he was.

I have a pair of TMI shoulder titles (slouch hat insignia?) similar to those those posted on https://www.angloboerwar.com/forum by "LinneyI".

They're brooched, of white metal with traces of gilding.
I'll dig them out.

Not as similar to Linnerl's as I thought:

Yes, I saw those, I mistakenly thought from memory that my insignia were quite similar another title shown on the thread but they're noticeably different.

Your aspersion has been cast! Not without some truth however :D

Well, they were hand made by various jewellers, so you would certainly expect to encounter a number of differing examples.
