question on signal school badge
 

hi all
what are the thoughts of the AIF signals school badge shown in this pic from the museum in victoria? hard to make out, but i think it says "signal school victoria"

the description says ww2 period but looks like WW1 period to me with its style, or maybe 1920-30s.

then ive also found this example. same but different. not designated to a state.
anyone know of any other examples?

There was one of these sold on Ebay a few months ago, the only time I have ever seen it illustrated.

Strange the lapel badge in the museum has a blue flag with white stripe, and the one that you show BC has a white flag with blue stripe. Very nice all the same and I wish I had one.

I don't remember how much the ebay one sold for, but I have a scan of it somewhere (very poor quality) and will try to find it.

There was one of these listed recently by Brittons Badges, their No 18223, it was sold before I got to it and I don't know what it sold for, of course it could be the one that you are showing.

the pic i showed is the one Brittons sold.
the questions arising are
1 there are at least 2 types, commonwealth and victoria but are there others?
2 the museums caption says its ww2 however the style, look and the makers mark say its probably 1903-1920ish. see pic which i would normally relate to 1903-12 badges. thoughts?
3 what is it? an association badge type fob or an officially worn item?
anyway, its a lovely looking item and interesting that the flags colours were reversed for some reason?

Well I was at the Sigs Museum yesterday, Tuesday 19th June and was able to get the badge out of the locked cabinet to photograph together with the pair of enamelled crossed sigs flags.

All I can tell you is the back is plain with the makers mark of Stokes. The photos are still in the camera but will send them on to you in due course.

found myself another one of these. this time its named.
came with the other little badge
this now proves its WW1 period.
interestingly i cant find this chap had any service overseas.
