7th Dragoon Guards

A bit of assistance needed from the cavalry experts. Does anyone know why these collar badges appeared rather than the usual ones and more importantly which cap badge was worn with them. Thanks in advance.

Any help from the cavalry experts would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by ‘usual ones’ aren’t these just the earlier pattern? Presumably if a bronze cap badge existed and I’ve never seen one, it would be like the collar on the right but with blades.

Identical set the the white metal ones you posted in the mounting badges thread.

(Unless I’m missing something obvious here)

All the usual collar badges have a latin scroll where as these have the words in English 7th Dragoon Guards. Just curious why the change and when and was there a different cap badge or just the same OSD badge.

I see what you mean, if these are the same size as the cap badge, ie:larger than the ones with the Latino motto, then OSD collars tend replicate that. If they’re smaller them I have no idea. They are very nice though, you have some lovely officers cavalry items.

Don't know if this will help.

I am not an expert but Bronze badges arrived with khaki SD: so your collars may well be officers' pre 1906 before the change of badge and motto.

Thanks all, even though it seems inconclusive. The collar badges are of normal size and I would agree with Alan that they probably pre date 1906. Still not really sure what cap badge would go with them, so I shall just mount them by themselves.

I’d assume that if Alan is correct, and his theory seems sound to me too, then logically a bladed OSD cap badge of the same pattern exists and they would be worn with that.

If that is the case, then I have found my “want” for 2020👍👍

Good luck, as I said earlier I’ve never seen one.

I wish you good luck too. Haven’t seen one ever either. Quite literally there may be more double scroll nelly’s out there than the badge you seek. Best of luck in your quest.

I had a look around the archives of sales on line and found this one on Empire Militaria, so I think it exists. Now getting one maybe a differ3nt story.
