Irish Guards Officer's Cap Star.

Is it possible to date this Irish Guards cap star ? It has lugs east and west. And the makers mark FIRMIN/LONDON, with no other marking present.

I know of no reliable way to date them with any accuracy.

The cut on the rays (diamond, straight etc.) appear and disappear with no obvious pattern.

I think the best way is via patina and general quality of construction. This one looks earlier than 1990's by virtue of the finish but other than that I can't personally say more.
