EBAY GAUNT CARDS - WARNING

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Badge-Huntingd...item3ca8e6ecc0

Note at no point does the seller state that the card is contempory to the badge. There is no guarantee that these are not put together with fake badges.

Thanks for the warning Alan,

In my opinion, I doubt if I have come across a more arrogant seller on ebay, I know that after reading his conditions, I will not re-visit, I hope with an attitude like his, he is not a forum member !!

Happy New Year ??

Dave.

Mr Alan O I think you make a valid point. With so many fakes and Repos showing up on Evilbay. And from personal experience trying to fined a
13th Batt B.W. Cap Badge for over a year. I seen how this badges are now being reproduced like wild fire even the Authenticate papers as I seen few times.

A God Done Shame if you ask me. Mr Alan O!

That officer's bronze on a slider must set alarm bells ringing straight away...

................ and yet look at his 100% feedback score-there must be hundreds ,if not thousands, of gullible buyers out there.

Is someone printing these cards? I think he has another for sale.

But what about the Officers Silver on a slider? He points out it is `silver` as that is what is stamped on the the slider but the 4 marks adjacent to it look distinctly like hallmarks but he makes no mention of them! Not even as a makers mark? Could this be that refering to the badge as being `silver` and having 4 marks adjacent an unsuspecting buyer would assume them to be genuine hallmarks? I am sure they are not hall marks at all but without having a clearer image an unsuspecting buyer would have the item in his hand before he finds out that it is not hallmarked and that he has no come back on the seller! Clever !

Why would a Officers & OR's badge be carded together? It just looks dodgy.

Neil Pearce 03-01-10 03:06 AM

As deejayuu points out, this guy is very smart. There are several silver items in particular meant to mislead in my opinion. The gaunt cards are potentially as bad as a potential deception.

I have asked for closer pics of the Leeds Rifles item, which seems to have a hallmark. We will see.

As a matter of interest I am attaching a photo of a Gaunt card I have had for some considerable time ( years rather than months ).

There are a number of differences between my card and the one on EB but these may be due to them being printed at different times or to some other explanation.

It will be interesting to see how many more of these cards surface in the next few weeks .

Here is the response to my enquiry for clarification as to whether the Leeds Rifles item is hallmarked, and a closer image of the "hallmark":

"It is JRG&S (Gaunt & Son authorised hallmark) and 'S'"

Not much further forward I'm afraid.... bargepole anyone?

Cheers, Neil

Looking at the Guards MG badge on a Gaunt card, when did Gaunt acquire premises in Birmingham, was it after WW1?
Also why do the sliders not have a Gaunt stamp?
Seems like a set up?
Bill.

Bill,
99% of badges with Gaunt on the slider are fakes, you cannot fake a fake too much!
