Hello all, new to the site, long time collector of police memorabilia , new to military, I found this framed display with UK badges in an antique shop today, was wondering if someone can help identify what they are, like I said new to this the only thing I know is Queens Crown vs pre 1953 Kings Crown, just the basics I know, by the way these we found "as is" it's a shame someone cut the tops off a few of these beautiful pieces.....

Hello aYankinBoston, welcome to the Forum. Your account is active and open for posts.
The Grand Trunk Railway Regiment is a Canadian militia badge, circa 1866-1881. The regiment was in theory made up of employees of the Grand Trunk Railway, (which later became Canadian National Railways). The GTR Regiment saw service in the Fenian Raids of 1866. A scarce Canadian militia helmet plate.

Thanks Bill !!

Just a guess, but it looks like the crowns have been snapped off to stop the badges being used, as opposed to cut off to have a latter crown fitted.

Here goes, a uk Royal Marines helmet plate, a brass coat of arms from an old safe, a vic crown Masonic item, backplate from a guards star, uk docks police Badge Night time type, east Surrey other ranks helmet plate, and wreaths and bits of badges.

The lions are maybe coat chain bosses.

Welcome.

The removal of Crowns or other prominent parts was a MoD disposals thing.

I like the Met Police helmet plate, its odd though as it doesn't exactly fit with the rest.

Looking at them the Crowns have been carefully cut off for some reason. Look at the Metpol. helmet plate. That's a very neat cut. If it was to ensure that the badges could not be misused, why be so neat? Why not simply bend the Crown back and forth until it detaches? No, the War Dept. have not done that. I wonder if the Crowns have been put to another use.
