Is this a Danby Mint RMP badge?

Hi All,

The title says it all really. I've bought it thinking it's a Danbury Mint badge but when I've looked at the RMP badge in Grey Green Acorn's album:

The blades on mine are attached slightly differently. Is it just a variation or have I got something else?

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Are the blades fitted over a little stub of metal ?

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure, it looks as though there could be but nothing is visible.

Strange . I can see why you think it's a Danbury. At 1st glance I'd agree ,but looking closer it may not be.
The Danburys have quiet a big end fitted to the badge, these seem small with a hole in them.
Some years ago I was given an RMP badge with pins on the back. These had to be bent round to secure the badge. This I was told was for the Warrant Card. Yours could well be a earlier version of the Warrant Card badge .

Hello Michael, I have 2 RMP A/A badges with blades N & S which I believe were both Danby Mint but now seeing this I have one the same as Post 3 so maybe a Warrant card badge??

Sorry forgot to add picture :)

Jerry, your image clearly illustrates why I'm sceptical that it's a Danbury badge. The bent part of the blade is pretty small and it has the hole. The Danbury always seemed to have a squared end and was far bigger than shown in both images .

Thanks everyone,

I agree with what you're saying, it does look different however I've just been sent these photos by a friend, apparently the badge on the warrant card holder has prongs that go into the leather then it's glued as well but looking at the attached photos I'm not convinced my badge could flatten out as much as that.

Danbury Mint badges seem to have used several different methods to fix the blades including a type where the fold over part has a small hole.

RRW - fold with hole
MPSC - fold with hole
GTR - fold with hole
RMP - fold
RRF - fold
RE - embedded (badge marked FIRMIN)
REME - fold and clutch pin
13/18H - two clutch pins

Thanks Tim,

I don't think the fitting on my badge matches any of the Danbury ones you have shared meaning mine probably isn't a Danbury one.

Were there any other manufacturers made badges for the collectors market or is the warrant card our only other option?

I'm just not convinced the blades on this could fold flat enough to to match how thin it is on the holder.

Thanks for the help,

Michael

To me it looks the same fitting as the MPSC badge. Danbury Mint badges were designed to be mounted in small groups on A5 black velour covered 5mm foam board. Beware when bending the blades, they will easily fracture.

I have what I believe are two Danbury Mint WRAC badges, one a very kind gift - THANKS Bob!!! After reading this thread I checked the backs of mine and noticed that the blades are attached to the back where a round hole is located. I have tried to get a picture.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks Tim and Terry,

Having looked again it does look similar to the MPSC fitting and I think the gentle curve on the blades would fit with going into foam board rather than squashed flat to fit in a wallet.

I've been told in some cases the badges are even sewn into the wallet so there seems to be a few variations.

Thanks again for the help everyone,

Michael
