Royal Demerara Militia belt buckle

Hello All

Today I was given this Royal Demerara Militia which had apparently been found about 20 years ago during an excavation on the side of the lighthouse hill in Cooktown, Queensland, Australia.

I have done all the usual searches on the net but have been able to find little information on the unit other than it appears to have existed in the British colony of Demerara between the 1790's to the 1830's.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I might get more info on the unit, if it had any connection to colonial Australia, and the belt buckle.

The buckle has a two small holes which would probably indicate it is missing either a cypher or badge from the centre.

Regards

Dennis

Those Waist Belt Clasps were not introduced until 1855 so the unit dates after that.

3rd West Indies Regiment (Demerara) from old British Guiana, I doubt if there is any Australian connection
