Royal air corps cap pin/sweetheart badge?
 

Hi all, I'm hoping you might be kind enough to help me identify this. I've looked everywhere I can think of but can't find anything quite like it. It appears to be RAC, have seen similar, either metal but without the motto, or with the motto but all in coloured enamel. Can anybody tell me more about it please?

It belonged to my great-grandmother who wore it on her beret for as long as my grandmother can remember. Her husband certainly wasn't the one who gave it to her and she wasn't the sentimental type so we wonder how and why she might have had it.

The badge is a sweetheart type pin for the Royal Flying Corps.

As Bill has said, it's a RFC sweetheart badge that's most probably all hand made from perhaps a sketch or illustration from a newspaper or magazine , here's a commercially produced example of the same type along with a cap badge, I hope this helps.

@magpie - is it usual for there to be handmade ones? I had wondered why it wasn't quite the same as the others I'd seen. Does that likely mean that the person who gave it to her wasn't actually in the RFC? Why would they do that? Sorry for all the questions I'd just love to know more and so would my Grandma :)

Hello Tabbit.Its a common circa WW1 type brooch made by "ABros" in sterling silver,They gold plated/Gold wash`d the front of these type brooches.They are very well made types.Somthimes they have no marks or just Abros or sterling.
Please I might add the subject matter of your brooch is not common,Just the style of brooch.
