Looking at the 3rd picture it shows the ROF patch as Home Guard.
I was always under the assumption that it was a Dust Coat patch worn by staff at ROF Leeds??
Can it be confirmed as HG or not? It may well appear in Jon Mills wonderful book "Badges on Battle Dress" Vol 1 on page's 222-309-311.
At present I do not have these so if a member could have a quick look for me that would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Jerry, I agree with you. I have only seen it as worn by Royal Ordenance Factory workers.

If you scroll down to pages 9 and 10 in this PDF file you will see a picture of some ROF ladies wearing the patch on their left sleeve of their civilian dress.

I have not yet seen a picture of a member of the HG wearing the patch. Once I do, I would want one of course!

Found this :

Reflecting their vital role, printed cloth ‘Front Line Service’ insignia was issued to the workforce. It was sometimes worn as an overalls badge or even on battledress by the factory’s Home Guard unit made up of the male employees.

With the replies received so far I am now going to add the ROF printed patch to my Home Guard collection and of course look for another one to replace in my ROF collection which is quite smaller now....

I think if it were me, I would just ask Jon, he may well have some photographic evidence that he might send to you.

I agree asking Jon would be the best thing.

Is it my eyes (or the picture) but the patch in the book appears to have red background to the scroll and fill to the lettering v’s the yellow in the other patch shown?

That was what I thought but the description states : "Lettering in yellow"

Not even a hand full of men in that photo, none of whom are wearing battledress.

In Jon Mills excellent book on the Home Guard he has a picture of the badge in his "Home Guard Yes or No?" picture section, and in the related chapter he says that it has been suggested that RoF HG units may have worn it but that there is no evidence of it. He further says it would have been frowned upon.

As Terry says after some forty years of looking at HG photos I have failed to find any evidence of the ROF badge being worn by a Home Guard unit.

As an earlier post says it was worn on clothing by women working at the ROFs, those in the photo from ROF Kirby

There is also a plastic version but I have not seen evidence of it being worn.

Jon
