Identification Help Needed Please

I am hoping that someone, somewhere can help with identifying this badge. It was amongst my late father-in-law's vast collection - he couldn't identify it either. The wording on the scroll reads: S. LONDON MEDICAL S. CORPS. It is approximately 2 inches in length. No markings/maker's name on the reverse. Thank you.

Hello,

Are you sure its not, 8. LONDON MEDICAL S. CORPS.

Strange badge. Why put an artillery grenade on a medical related badge. Looks like an item of fiction....

Unless they were assigned to or covered the Royal Fusiliers (City of London) Regiment. (Long shot)

Based on the number of flames I would call that a Fusilier bomb.

Hi Terry,
It has been my understanding that that is a standard 'bomb' used by artillery, engineers and fusiliers at some point in time.... i.e. no difference in flames. Only the later lager badge had 7 flames (artillery) and 9/10 flames (engineers).

Interesting, not an item I've ever seen before, can you post a rear image of this badge?
Cheers Tony.

Hello Simon: You might be right there! I will check again whether it's an '8' or an 'S' and let you know.

Tony: I will take a photo of the rear ASAP and re-post. Should have done that originally!

Hello Diana,
It looks to be London Medical Staff Corps. Newspapers from the 1890s to the early 1900s refer to the Corps eg The Volunteer Service Gazette (2nd June 1894 pg 498 has an account of the annual dinner for the officers of the London Companies of the Medical Staff Corps. I can find reference to the 2nd and 3rd companies of the LMSC and the link below (lot 561) has a picture of a badge to the South LMSC but it is very different to yours.

https://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archiv...gory=Militaria

If you search Medical Staff Corps on this forum you should find a number of posts re the corps

Eg https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...al+staff+corps

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...al+staff+corps

I couldn't find an example of your badge though.

The badge in the opening post is clearly a conversion of the badge you have referenced, DNW Lot 561.

DianaD 05-09-20 08:43 AM

Steve: thanks for your help. The badge shown lot 561 is completely different to mine, apart from the wording. Will keep searching. Diana

Hello Hoot: When you say a 'conversion', do you think my badge is a fake? I am going to post a photo of the rear ASAP. Diana
