5th(Angus & Dundee) Battalion Black Watch
 

I'm trying to sort out the antecedents of the various Territorial Black Watch Battalions and put them in a picture format for myself as I find working between the two Bloomer publications confusing. Perhaps it's an age thing.

But I'm stuck with the badge that the 5th (Angus & Dundee) Battalion (TF) wore post 1908.

The 2nd VB and 3rd VB became the 5th Battalion TF, but as there isn't a unique 5th Battalion badge did they just continue to wear their respective VB badges , but perhaps with a KC instead of a QVC.

What I'm trying to do is perhaps better explained in the attached picture I made for myself. In it I've used a 6/7th Battalion badge (without the sphinx battle honour) as a representation of a 5th Battalion badge - but as this badge was unique to the 6th and 7th it is obviously incorrect and needs to be changed.

Perhaps someone can confirm then that the 5th Battalion TF continued to wear their respective VB badges but perhaps with a KC?????? - or perhaps a normal Black Watch badge with sphinx!!!!

5th TF Bn was the same as the 6th and 7th.

Thank you Alan that clears it up nicely and even better for me - my extemporised picture is correct.

The only badge that is different of the five TF battalions is the 8th being the cyclist badge.

If you were a real badge pedant then you need a Regular badge with the sphinx for the TF from 1916 onwards!

I've presently got the page open as I write. Bloomer's lineage detail is excellent and very easy to follow, but I'm afraid my old dull brain was finding it difficult in skipping between the two Bloomer books to identify the badge that related to each line entry and then on top of that, trying to remember them. And of course they haven't illustrated all the antecedent badges, the 3rd Forfarshire (Dundee Highland) RV in my scan being an example I think. So for me I thought it would be easier to do it all pictorially as far back as my collection would allow.

Ah and you might also see that the 2nd Admin Batt Forfarshire (Forfar & Angus) RV in the scan is described as a shako plate - so I'm not quite there with that one.

Once I get all the TF battalion's antecedents done pictorially it will hopefully identify, without constant recourse to Bloomer, the many gaps that will keep me occupied in trying to fill, without providing a pension for dealers.

You seem to love charts. Have a look at
Forfarshire
and
Perthshire - Fifeshire

They don't have the detail with respect to badges as you would like to have them (the badges are only illustrations to make the charts less boring), but they show the several RVCs, etc. and their connections.

You're right there Henk - probably missed a vocation as an accountant!!
