The black brass looks as if it's been powder coated Neil. I have a number of badges from this period and there black factory anodised or black painted anodised. I have a black painted metal one I was given by an ex Officer also. Never seen black powder coated ones, saying that a serving soldier would have got away with wearing it in the field or in NI.

Thanks for that Mike Never thought about the black coating just assumed NI have seen painted AA and Have a Black AA Para

From a mate who is ex 2 RGJ. 1 and 3 RGJ wore silver badges, 2 wore blackened ones. He said this was because of their heritage from KRRC. I suppose they probably all wore blackened ones on patrol in NI, but if you see the associations on parade, the ex 2 RGJ guys proudly wear the blackened one.

That even continues to day. My best mates son was in 2 Rifles, which was 1RGJ. He was very proud of the heritage back to the KRRC.
For those that dont know when the RGJ went for 3 btns to 2,1 RGJ went and the 2 became 1 and 3 became 2.
