2NZEFIP Distingusihing patches
 

I did this a while ago, but I thought this would be a good place to add it as it may be of interest to some.

I used M. Thomas and Cliff Lord book, as a reference.

Do any of you have examples of the patches to show?

Just a note for those not familiar with New Zealand Forces in WW2, 2NZEFIP
was the name given to the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Pacific. It was decided to send a Brigade Group (B Force) to Fiji leaving in October 1940. Fiji Defence Force and 8 NZ Brigade were combined with a strength of about 5000 officers and men. It expanded to divisional size with the inclusion of 14 Brigade. With America becoming involved in the Pacific Theatre the NZ Forces were recalled to New Zealand. 3 NZ Division of 2NZEF was formed in NZ and fully established in New Caledonia from October 1942.
Many of these patches were similar to WW1 NZ patches.

I have the 29th, 34th, 37th and 14th MMG.
I am happy to show the first 3, but you will have to wait for me to post the 14th MMG patch on the NZMGS thread.

Yes brent would like to see examples I have a 34th it would be nice to see if it is the same construction, I also have a 30th but it may be WW1 so not 30th..

Here are the two I have, the 34th is made of silk blue and gold the backing is drill or denim, The 30th is melton it may not be a 30th I would like to see other examples to confirm

I am pretty sure all except the 14th MMG are WW1 period.

I notice yours are quite different in fabric to the two I have shown.
Some may have been produced here some in the islands and mid war and late war production.
I think my 34th is a WW1 example now I have seen yours.

Hi guys im new to all this so opoligies if in the wrong area.

im trying to make memorial boards for my dad and uncles & have all their medals but im looking at chevrons and unit patches etc but unsure of what im looking for.
Dad was Private. 26 battalion, "C" Company
Ivan was Private. 27 Machine Gun Battalion. "J" Force
Roy was Corpral. 11 heavey Artillery unit, Godley Head
Maurice Was Fght Sarg Attached to 24 Sqaudron SAAF. K.I.A.any help would be greatly appreciated.

2NZEFIP Infantry distinguishing patches
 

New zealand came the closest in its history to invasion in 1942.Part of the response was the raising of the short lived 3 Division (2NZEFIP) which fought in the South pacific. Much can be read of their desperate exploits, which were under shadowed by the 2NZEF in Middle East/Europe. Here is a description by Major General Barrowclough (who had also witnessed the horrors of the WW1 trenches) after he visited the site of action after the NZ assault on Green Islands in Feb 1944: "a small but bloody battlefield...70 mangled bodies piled one on top of another in a most revolting confusion. Never in my experience have i encountered such a concentrated spectacle of carnage as was presented here". Here are the Infantry Battalions cotton drill unit patches, which were worn on the Lemon squeezer puggaree. (all hard to find)
Top row, left to right:
29 BN, 30 BN, 34 BN, 35 BN.
36 BN, 37 BN, 14 BDE MMG, 8 BDE MMG, NZASC.

Here are my 3Div 2NZEF badges
You will note that the 8th Brigade MMG company colours are back to front.
