Hi everyone,

Could you please help me to identify the tartan on this Canadian made tam o' shanter? I've looked everywhere with no luck.

Thanks, Jeff.

Hi Jeff

I'll have a quick look in my grandfather's tartan book that he bought in Edinburgh in 1920. He was descended from MacLean of Duart and he wrote a note to this effect in the front!:)

Just a thought but if you have a Scottish regalia shop near you, they are very good at this type of request!

I am away from my notes but it looks like that worn by 252 Fd Amb

Tartan

Holes are too wide for a RAMC, RCT, RASC or QA badge.

Good call on that tartan especially as the Balmoral label is post-SWW.

Looks like the Lewis tailor's shop is located in Truro Nova Scotia.

That’s interesting because from what I read, the name Eastern Hat and Cap Manufacturing Co. as seen on the label was changed to Lewis Ltd in 1936?

The unissued Eastern Hat and Cap Manufacturing Co. example Balmoral I have in my collection is undated but marked with a Canadian Ordnance post-SWW acceptance stamp.
