Here is the link for the National Archives Medal Index Card search facility, you will be able to find out basic details regarding each individual from here with links to other avenues of research. There is a charge but unless you have Ancestry or FMP access this is the easiest way to start your research.

Sidney Dymond was wounded (GSW) in the face arm and hip. He is listed as a SJT in the admission and discharge book (under second reg no 20043) which gives his company Letter etc. There is some more info from his Pension records attached.

Thank you for these documents

Could you confirm that the Indian medals are for 17th Indian Cavalry (Regiment ?) and 10th Lancers (Duke of Cambridge's Own Lancers (Hodson's Horse) ?)

2409 KHAN may well have been 10th Bengal Lancers, as you suggest, though I cant find a medal card for him. What's interesting with this medal is that it has two ranks (sowar) and two surnames (shah/khan). Not sure why this is. As for the other medal, i can't find his index card either. The only name with that reg no. I found was for infantry. I have another look though.

I doubt you will find anything on the Indian medals unless they are VCOs. Records for a sowar are very unlikely unless you find the the medal roll, which for Indian recepients has so far been impossible. The 10th Lancers if ofcourse Hodsons Horse. The naming is odd. The rank - sowar - is repeated. Khan is a surname, but Shah is often used as first or last name.

I would have liked to buy the medal except that in these covid times it's one hell of a task shipping stuff to India.

Adding to my earlier reply..the name seemed to ring a bell and found I have a Victorian medal named to a 1059
Lance Daffafar Shah Sower, 13 Bengal Lcrs.. different people of course but maybe a spelling mistake. The name might be SHAH SOWER KHAN.
Have queried this on my local medal forum..will get back..

Thanks Simon! Though I feel thats not the way the first name should be rendered.. probably a translation error. I've never heard of a Muslim name called 'sowar'
