253rd Bn CEF Queen's University Highlanders

Evening all,

We have many images of the voided 253rd Bn cap badge for the CEF Book Project but none for the non-voided badge attributed to Hemsley as listed in Charlton. Not only that but I've been looking for a non-voided badge for years but have never seen one. I would love to hear from anyone who has (or can confirm the existence of) the non-voided pattern.

Thanks, Ian.

Solid 253rd cap badge

Ian,

See my previous post against your 254th Bn thread.

Ian,

And here is a quick photo of E253A-2 - the solid pickled brass cap badge by Hemsley. (Not good enough though for the CEF Project).

E254-2 - the solid pickled brass cap badge also by Hemsley is also attached. Again, not good enough quality for the CEF Project.

Finally, I have also attached another 'missing' badge from the CEF Project page, namely the E244B-21, the Officers 'Victoria Rifles Canada / 244 / Overseas / Thorough' cap badge.

I'll see if I can much better quality photos to dispatch in Larry's direction in the next few days.

Thanks Lovat. When you say that the badges are Hemsley, they are marked as such or the style of construction leads to that conclusion?

Thanks Lovat. My only question is why aren't those in my collection?! They must be fairly scarce, in +10 years of collecting yours are the first I've seen. Good stuff and thanks for showing the pics! Cheers, Ian.

Bill,

Mea culpa :o! The 253rd is actually maker marked 'Kinnear & Desterre'. The 254th is not maker marked but does have the Hemsley style lugs (and the ones on my badge are original).

The 244th Offrs cap badge is also not maker marked - however, it does have the Jeffrey Hoare (JH) lead seal between the lugs.

Thanks Lovat. The K & D mark was also found on the voided pattern. I don't think there were any other makers of the 253rd badge.

Lovat. Wow.
That 244 is a beautiful badge. A very rare badge.
Very envious now.
Thanks for sharing
Dan
