Hi Gents,

Can I get some opinions on this name?

It looks like 'Jack' to me.

Further info; this chap was in the 10th Signal Company Royal Engineers Motor Cycle Section, Bueford Camp Wilts.

Cheers,

Roy

I think you will find it is BULFORD Camp, in Wiltshire.

Hi Marc,

You are absolutely right my friend, a second look (see attached) confirms your comments.

Could also feasibly be Joel.

I'd go with "Jack" in an era when just about very "J" is Jack or Joseph, every "C" is Charles, "E" Edward or Edwin....

When looking for WW1 men and I only have initials, I always run through the common names and they usually end up being the right one....

Then you have the "odd" ones who use a second name that was actually a surname.

Example: searching for "G. L. Good" I correctly guessed "George" but would never have thought of "Lacy" for the "L"!

Definitely JACK..... in cursive writing, which is not taught in Ontario any more, the English school children were always taught to finish off the “a” at the bottom of the letter before starting the next letter,(in this case the “c”). If it was to be an “o” as in Joel, one would finish the “o” at the top of the letter, then go into the “e” where the horizontal line is on the printed lower case version is shown. The foregoing of course does not apply to Officers or Doctors!:D

Thanks for this gents,

Both myself and my wife thought Jack but I always second guess myself, so glad to have you chaps to assist in confirmation.

Here is the photo of 'Jack' now taken it's place in my album.

It's so nice when there is even a small amount of details on the back of these images.

Cheers,

Roy
