Military Cross Research Query

Probably not the best place to ask this question but I am trying to establish if an individual named Trevor Lyndon Walters, in WW2 an RAF officer, was entitled to a Military Cross, believed to be for the First World War.

I know that the combined knowledge of Forum members is vast and hope that someone can help with this one as medals are not my strong point.

All thoughts appreciated.

Jon,

In his London Gazette entry for his RAF commission he has NO post nominals after his name.

Cant find an earlier military entry nor find him on a WW1 Army List so may not have been an officer in WW1, but still could be awarded the MC as a Warrant Officer and therefore not in the Army Lists.

regards

A quick search for a Medal Index Card for World War One shows no matches on Ancestry UK.

Simon.

Simon,

Thanks for that. I should have mentioned that his LG entry does not include post-nominal letters which seems unusual.

He also has on his tunic an India General Service medal ribbon and I have been informed that an RAF Corporal with that name is entitled to the bar Waziristan 1921-24. So he may have won the MC as a WO.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Now we've gone firm on "89408".
No date other than 1945 I'm afraid:

Thank you, that fills in some of the gaps quite nicely. But why no medal card and why does MC not appear as post nominal letters?

Could he have embellished his service and got away with it or is he just proving hard to track down?

Jon

Hello,

Let me know what you find. I believe you are talking about my grandfather.
I believe he did serve in both world wars in the RAF. Sorry, I don't have any information.

Thanks

I once had the chance to buy the most wonderful "fabricated" group going from Afghanistan, Egypt 1882, Sudan, WW1 trio, QSA, KSA.

The only genuine one was the QSA (for some ordinary unit with only one bar) and the owner had had a serious case of the Walter Mittys.:D

He had bought medals from pawn broker's and others and had them renamed. Newspapers carried breathless stories of his deeds until he was finally........ rumbled!
