Is the School of Musketry a Service/Corps/Dept?
 

Hi All,

My main collection (nearly there) is of WWI regular units at 11 Nov 1918.

I was not planning to feature the School of Musketry badge in it, until I saw the 1918 Order of Precedence at regiments.org (via wayback machine) at http://web.archive.org/web/200511141...sts/ba1918.htm

Everything in this precedence list seems fine to me until we get to the services.

Do we think the School of Musketry is a regular services unit - like the ASC, AOC, RAMC etc? It just doesn't feel right amongst them. It feels more like it should belong along with other badges like RMC Sandhurst - things that were worn, but weren't really serving units.

Any thoughts?

The obituary information below shows that instructors could be attached to other units.

KENT, C. W. Colour Serjeant (Instructor Musketry), 306.
National Rifle Association School of Musketry. (Hythe).
Attached to the 8th (Service) Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment.
Died Wednesday 21 April 1915. Aged 56.

Given this, I would view them in the same light as any other service corps.
