What is the Lincs collectors views on this badge? I have an identical but with the scroll lettering flaws and the face I have never been happy with it. Am I being too wary?

Its the same strike as a very very poor quality metal, reproduction that I had years ago.

Alan O 05-09-13 06:48 PM

That's what I feared. It's an old fake but the flawed scroll is not a good sign.

Phil2M 05-09-13 07:05 PM

I wouldnt have thought the quality control would have let it through?

The flawed "C" is IMO a repro badge.

Similar fault standard badge. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-Lincol...item565aa7b243

I have also got a flawed C, TF badge, the title scroll on mine is very soft and bends quite easily. I have never been happy with this badge. I have had it for approx 25yrs and therefore believe IMHO that they are old fakes, which are still in circulation.

Thanks for your time. I do think that this is an old fake as I have not seen them sold by the usual fakers but it does not look right to me.

The photo shows it next to a genuine one. The flaws in the scroll are obvious and the faker has a 'comic' face. Latter day fakes' faces are even worse than these faces.

I notice the positioning of the 1st letter i on Alan's badge. I have noticed this on other Lincolnshire badges. Regards, Paul

Hello,

This is my Grandfathers 4th Lincolns - it also has the out of alignment letter "I"

I've also included a photo of him wearing it in his hospital blues.

PJT's badge is correct, although it has been converted from slider.

Pay special attention to the rib cage and head of the sphinx. If those design features do not match, then I am afraid there are issues with said badge.

PJT 06-09-13 01:45 PM

Hi,

The lugs are the original ones and it has never had a slider fitting...it might just be the muck on the back of the badge or the quality of the photo.

Alan O 06-09-13 03:18 PM

Mine is also lugged and has never been slidered. I do not know if the WD produced any of these badges in 1915-16 but I would expect them to be slidered if they had placed an order.

This type issued to the 4th in Aug 1914.

I am interested as how you can date it so precisely? Is there some interesting provenance to the badge?
