Royal Armoured Corps - But what's the badge?
1 Attachment(s)
Taken from a 1943 group photo of the staff of the RAC OCTU at Sandhurst this Warrant Officer is wearing the RAC black beret but unless I am going senile I do not recognise his cap badge.
Clearly a dragon but the scrolls do not conform to the normal badge of the Buffs which was known to have been worn by 141 RAC converted from the regiment's 7th Bn. Help! Jon |
If i'm not mistaken it's an officers collar badge

Buffs OSD collar badge polished to bare metal Churchill Fig 93.

Great photo and a nice example of a WO wearing items outside the normal dress regulations.

Is there the likelihood that the badge could be "silvered" or chromed rather than polished down to brass?

Leigh,
I'd say you've got something there, the cap badges were 'silvered' it seems sometime in 1942 or 1943 so adding a WO's 'special' would fall in line with that. John |
